The Effective Pastor

Part II

Kevin Mannoia —Chaplain of Azusa Pacific University Graduate and Professional programs; coauthor of 15 Characteristics of Effective Pastors.

Larry Walkemeyer — Pastor of Light & Life Christian Fellowship in Long Beach, CA; coauthor of 15 Characteristics of Effective Pastors.

What do effective pastors have in common?

Are there certain characteristics which set the stage for healthy, authentic leadership?

Increasing diversification in the Church has made it confusing to identify the true heart of effective leadership.

Experts Kevin Mannoia, Larry Walkemeyer, host HB London and a panel of church leaders reveal the common, essential qualities of The Effective Pastor in this exciting, new CCN series for ministry leaders.

These monthly programs are designed to help pastors close the gap between their calling to ministry and their actual experience of success.

According to Mannoia and Walkemeyer, "...ineffectiveness in pastors and subsequent ill health in churches is often not the result of a lack of calling, but instead is the result of misappropriated efforts to find success."

Mannoia and guests will challenge and equip those who are called to ministry to become good stewards of that calling by focusing their energies in the right direction.

In Part II, pastors and leaders will explore these indispensable keys to pastoral effectiveness:

  • A  zeal for the mission of the Church.
  • A servant mindset.
  • A pursuit of personal and corporate holiness.
  • A growing prayer life.
  • A dependence on the Spirit.
  • An ability to preach God's Word.

Protect the health of your leadership and your church! Discover the path to effective leadership!

Dr. Kevin Mannoia is Professor of Ministry and serves as the Graduate and Faculty Chaplain at Azusa Pacific University. He developed and oversees the chaplaincy and spiritual care programs of the graduate and adult students of the University, as well as providing care to the faculty. Prior to this, he served as Dean of Haggard School of Theology, President of the National Association of Evangelicals and bishop of the Free Methodist Church. Mannoia brings his understanding of the church at a congregational, organizational, denominational, and national level. His books include, Church Planting: The Next Generation; Century 21 Church Planting Manual, The Integrity Factor: A Journey in Leadership Formation, and Church 2k – Leading Forward.

Larry Walkemeyer leads the Light & Life Christian Fellowship in Long Beach, California, a community that started as a small mono-ethnic church and is now a large multi-ethnic, urban church. His 30 years in ministry have included youth ministries, conference speaking, para-church leadership, radio ministry, missions work, pastoral mentoring, and 15 church plant projects (7 of which are in Ethiopia). Azusa Pacific University named Larry one of the most influential students over its one hundred year history. Larry is a frequent speaker to ministry leaders and has started a non-profit organization to assist kingdom work in urban and international places of need.

HB London is the Vice President of Ministry Outreach/Pastoral Ministries for Focus on the Family. After serving three decades in pastoral ministry, he joined Focus on the Family as a “pastor to pastors.” He directs the development of ministries to pastors and their spouses, and oversees ministries affecting physicians, youth culture, the inner city, missionaries, and chaplains. He has co-authored Pastors at Risk, The Heart of a Great Pastor, and They Call Me.
